Private: The Rolling Message (My Invention)

A.   PURPOSE

The purpose of this invention is to demonstrate how to recycle out-of-date product and make it usable for achieving new functions.

We used Karen's brother's outgrown battery-powered toy car, and transformed it into a device that can demonstrate how an automatic delivery system, which delivers object from one position to another, works.

What we want to achieve in this demonstrating system is to make the delivery cart be able to stop automatically at the given positions, and be able to move back and forth.
B.  OBSERVATIONS

1. The battery-powered toy car is able to move in two directions, controlled by a switch on it.

2. The switch can achieve three basic controls to the car, moving forwards, backward and stop.

3. Details about the control switch:

· To stop, switch to middle

· To go backwards, switch to the right.

· To go forwards, switch to the left.

C.  THE CHALLENGES OF THIS INVENTION

1. Make sure it can start at a given position (A) and stop at another given position (B), and vice versa.
2. Make sure it can stop automatically, and accurately at the given position.
3. Make sure it works for both directions.

D.  HOW TO MAKE IT WORK

As shown in the diagram above, when the car moves in one direction and reaches the curved wood piece at the end, the switch handle of the car will be forced to move gradually back to its middle position and this will eventually stop the car. On the other direction, it works the same way.

When the card stops at the given position, it can be turned to move backwards by pushing it a bit more towards its original forward direction, because the switch handle will be pushed to the opposite position and make the car move to the opposition direction.

E. CONCLUSION

We have many things in our life that outgrown and we do not need them anymore. If recycling them in some ways, we can save a lot of nature resources and help protecting our environment, and build a lot of new things from old things.

This is the major message we are trying to convey to the people through our invention.
